From the moment Ethernet standards were used in networking technology, intercommunication processes between technological devices have been of utter convenience. It was the company named Palo Alto Research Center Incorporated (also referred to as PARC or Xerox PARC) that first came up with the idea of Ethernet. The company’s main idea was to create an electrical means that would be able to link computers using coaxial cables. With earliest form of testing in the 1970's, the original Ethernet version exhibited a speed of  3,000,000 bytes (Mb) per second of data transfer.

After almost ten years since the first testing took place, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers finally came out with the first Ethernet draft carrying the speed of 10,000,000 bytes (Mb) per second. Just like all forms of technology, the Ethernet advanced through time. Now, it comes in the best yet speed of 10 gigabyte per second, and in the near future versions of 40 gigabyte and 100 gigabyte per second is soon to arrive.  However, as the technology progressed into more complicated form, the mechanizations involved are also changed. For example, the traditional coaxial cable used in the very first versions has been replaced with more efficient modern types. But, how much do you know about the basics of Ethernet technology?

A normal network of computers or Local Area Network (LAN) could be compared with a spider web with trapped flies. The insects are the computers that are being held together by the web. In the middle of the web is the spider which acts as the brain of the entire system. In a real network of computers, the delivered and received messages are being administered by the so-called main frame. It tends to the strict control of all moving data signals as to assure there will no mistake in the transmissions.The computers are connected to the main frame via the use of special cables.

Ethernet uses the  meticulous means of communications called "Fiber Optics". Fiber Optics work by incorporating information into light signals for transportation. In other words, Ethernet networking functions by each of its linked devices producing light signals which they transmit to each other. But, it is of extreme importance that all light signals are not altered in the process of exchange. And thanks to the reliable performance of special Ethernet cables, such misfortune does not take place.
